UHP PHARMACEUTICAL R&D

CUSTOMER CHALLENGE:

A well-known science & engineering firm requested an ultra-high pressure fitting for a particular pharmaceutical research application. In a UHP environment the addition of sensory equipment to observe the reaction plus the ability to quickly/efficiently change out the sensors would allow the research project to progress much more efficiently.

RAYOTEK SOLUTION:

The addition of visual checks and quick change-out of sensory equipment (spectroscopy, flow analysis, temperature) allowed a much more efficient approach to the research project. The addition of one window portal was ideal for flexible function and cost reduction when compared to multiple sensor portals. The client has since returned to Rayotek for subsequent pharmaceutical research projects.

FINISHED PRODUCT:

Ultra-High Pressure Threaded Clean Portal ~ Specifications Achieved:

  • Interface - Threaded interface (15kpsi)
  • Housing Material - Inconel (corrosion resistance)
  • Window Material - C-Axis optical sapphire
  • Mounting - Proprietary bond & seal system (bond, interference fit & elastomeric seal combination)
  • Operating Pressure - Vacuum to 15kpsi
  • Operating Temperature - 10ºC to 200ºC
  • Additional Notes - contamination limits in Pharma/biomedical applications are very strict. The design required an absolute reduction of potential contaminants in the sterile process system. The design contamination requirements were met while maintaining original design requirements as well.
